A How to Paint Guide Porthole Gate and Fence Stencil Page 8

Post Shadows - Refer to Fig. 17. Before painting the shadow on
the left post, mask off the left picket of the gate by running a length of "Easy Mask" tape along its left edge starting exactly at the top and ending exactly at the bottom. Run a shorter piece along its bottom edge and another short piece along the top edge of the gate arc. Your goal is to cover all of the white painted area adjacent to the post. Starting at the bottom of the post, secure Print B2 and paint the shadow. Move the stencil up so that the shadow extends all the way to the Post Cap.
Before painting the shadow on the right post, mask off the railing and cross pieces that are next to the right edge of the post using "Easy Mask" tape. Your goal is to cover all of the white painted areas adjacent to the post. Starting at the bottom of the post, using Print B2, paint as described above.

Post Cap Shadows - Refer to Fig. 18. These shadows are painted using Prints E2, E3, and E4 on Stencil Sheet E in that order. Use the dots on the wall to line up the Triangle Registration Marks, secure in place, and paint.

Rail Shadow - Refer to Fig. 19. Use Print C2 on Stencil Sheet C. The lower edge of the stencil rests on the top of the white rail. Move the stencil as necessary overlapping a slight amount each time and blending the paint in the overlap areas. Or you may cover the railing with tape, measure up 1/4” (.64cm) and run another length of tape. Paint the shadow gray.

Hinges - Refer to Fig. 20. Use Prints C3 and C4 on Stencil Sheet C. Using the triangle register marks, align each overlay and stencil with gray, shade with a little black as shown on the package.

Private Sign - Refer to Fig. 21. Use Print D4 and D5 from the section removed from Stencil Sheet D. Position D4 as shown in the illustration. Use a level so that it is perfectly straight. Secure in place, mark dots in the Triangle Registration Marks, and paint with white. Line up D5 with the marked dots. Secure in place and paint with blue.

Latch - Refer to Fig. 22. Use Prints A3 and A4 on Stencil Sheet A. Position A3 as shown using a level so that it is perfectly straight. Secure in place, mark dots in the Triangle Registration Marks, paint with gray and shade with a little black as shown on the color frontsheet. Line up A4 with the marked dots, secure in place, paint with gray, and shade with a little black as shown on the package.
